Urolift Procedure:
The Prostatic Urethral Lift procedure involves the cystoscopically guided transurethral deployment of small permanent UroLift implants transversely across the lobes of the prostate.
Tiny implants are used to hold open the obstructed pathway that blocks urine flow. Unlike medications, the UroLift System treatment addresses the blockage directly, offering a mechanical solution to a mechanical problem.
Most men living with BPH symptoms take prescription medications after they’re diagnosed, although these often don’t provide adequate relief and may cause dizziness, fatigue, and sexual dysfunction.2
The UroLift System is a treatment option for men looking for relief from BPH symptoms. It does not require ongoing medication, heating, cutting or removal of prostate tissue, and the UroLift System treatment typically takes less than one hour.3
Possible side effects after UroLift may include:
- Burning with urination.
- Painful urination.
- Hematuria (blood in the urine)
- Urgency incontinence.
- Lower abdominal/pelvic pain.
If side effects do occur, they are generally mild and resolve within about 2 – 4 weeks.
Failure to work
Urolift is a minimally invasive procedure for the management of BPH, it does not stop the growth of the prostate. It may not be right for all men. Certain factors such as a large prostate (over 100 grams) or presence of a large median lobe of the prostate may limit the effectiveness of the procedure.
If the prostate is very large, it is possible that fewer than ideal Urolift implants were placed. Insurance companies limit the number of Urolift implants that a man can receive.
Some men have a prostate that is just too big for the Urolift procedure.
At 1Prostate Center we offer different treatments for men with bid prostates.
